Epayment can check black money, graft PM

Digital payments can check black money and playakey role in fighting graft, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday as he asked the youth to become an “anticorruption cadre” as part of the “cleanliness” drive.
Addressing his monthly Mann ki Baat radio programme, he said people, especially the youth, should become ambassadors of digital payments schemes rolled out by the government.

He said gradually people are“sheddingtheirhardcurrency mindset” and moving towards digital currency and the youth are leading the way using their mobile phones as the new tool to make and receive payments.

In the past two months, one million people have been rewarded, over 50,000 traders have won prizes and an amount of over ~150 crore has been earned as prize money by people who have promoted and carried forward the digital payments campaign, Modi said.

He said the schemes will complete 100 days on April 14, the 126th birth anniversary ofBRAmbedkar and people should help others download the BHIM application on their mobile phone for digital transactions.

Referring to the Swachh Bharat campaign, he said “psychological barrier” should not come in the way even while cleaning toilets.

Someseniorbureaucratshad recently demonstrated on how to cleana “twin pit” toilet, he said. “They also displayed as to how convenient these new technique toilets are and that there is absolutely no inconvenience,” he said. “To me, each and every individual involved in this mission (digital payment schemes) constitutesanew anticorruption cadre in the country.

Credit card spending growth declines on RBI gaze, stress build-up

  Credit card spends have further slowed down to 16.6 per cent in the current financial year (FY25), following the Reserve Bank of India’s tightening of unsecured lending norms and rising delinquencies, and increased stress in the portfolio.Typically, during the festival season (September–December), credit card spends peak as several credit card-issuing banks offer discounts and cashbacks on e-commerce and other platforms.
